Welcome to The Cordyline Collection (inc) website.
Learning about and collecting New Zealand Contemporary emerging works.

The Cordyline Collection Inc is an incorporated Society set up under New Zealand law by its members. The purpose of The Society is to learn about contemporary and emerging New Zealand artists by gathering on a regular basis and purchasing works of art by NZ contemporary and emerging artist that will the presented to the members and held and rotated amongst members for the enjoyment and edification.

The objects and purposes of Cordyline Collection Inc are to:
  • Build a national collection of New Zealand art with particular emphasis on contemporary and emerging artists.
  • Enhance the public and the members’ appreciation and knowledge of art and particular works of art and artists.
  • Collect and exhibit to members and publicly works of art purchased by the Cordyline Collection Inc.
  • Hold meetings of members to examine and discuss works of art purchased by the Society or to be considered for purchase and discuss merits, style, achievements and place in the art, both historically and contemporaneously, of New Zealand, and the world of particular artists.
  • Engage experts, either for a fee or gratuitously, to address, instruct or lead discussion, both publicly and to members of the Cordyline Collection Inc, in relation to all matters associated with these objects and purposes.
  • Ensure that by its activities the promotion of the various art forms and its virtues are made more widely known and appreciated by the New Zealand community.
  • Operate a scheme for the hire of works of art owned by the Cordyline Collection Inc either alone or in conjunction with other owners of works of art.
  • Commission particular artists to complete designated works of art to be acquired by the Cordyline Collection Inc.
  • Make rules for the operation and achievement of the objects and purposes of the Cordyline Collection Inc with particular regard to recording the individual works of art acquired by the Cordyline Collection Inc and its loan to members or hire or loan to non-members including art galleries whether public or private and for the proper care, conservation, hanging and handling of such works of art.
  • Encourage the formation of art appreciation groups within schools and colleges to further promote the role of art and artists in the culture of the peoples of New Zealand.
  • Encourage adequate numbers of adult persons to become members of the Cordyline Collection Inc to ensure that its membership achieves these objects.
  • Obtain appropriate and adequate insurance in relation to each of the works of art acquired by or in the possession of the Cordyline Collection Inc with the insurance applying at all times whether the works of art are in storage, on private loan or public exhibition or in transit or otherwise and wheresoever they may be.
